Chemical Peels
Pre/Post Care
- 017–14 days before peel Stop using: • Retinoids (Retin-A, tretinoin, adapalene) • Exfoliants (AHA, BHA, glycolic, salicylic acid) • Scrubs or physical exfoliants. Avoid: • Waxing, threading, laser, microneedling in the area • Excessive sun exposure / tanning Use: • Gentle cleanser, Moisturiser moisturiser and a daily SPF 30–50. 3–5 days before • Avoid: • Facial treatments • Shaving over the area (for face) • Self-tanner • Stay well hydrated Day of peel • Arrive with: • Clean skin • No makeup • No lotion • No perfume on treated area
- 02First 24–72 hoursSkin may feel:• Tight• Warm• Red• Slightly swollenCare:Use only:• Gentle cleanser (if allowed)• Healing moisturizer• Barrier creams prescribed• Avoid:• Makeup• Sun exposure• Heat (saunas, hot showers, workouts)• Touching or pickingDays 3–7 visible peeling, flakiness, excess dryness, mild itching may occur. Do:• Moisturise frequently• Use mineral sunscreen • Be very gentle with skinDo NOT:• Pick peeling skin• Use scrubs• Use retinol• Use acids• Use exfoliating brushesPicking can cause pigmentation and scarring.What to Avoid for 7–14 Days• Retinoids• AHAs/BHAs• Vitamin C (for stronger peels)• Benzoyl peroxide• Scrubs• Waxing• Laser• Microneedling* Other facial treatments, When to Call Your ProviderContact them if you have:• Severe swelling• Blistering• Intense burning• Dark patches forming• Signs of infection (pus, fever)
